Kelly remained silent about her abuse. No one knew of it until after she committed suicide. If she could have given her pain a voice, maybe she could have healed.

It was self-defense, but instead of turning on the abuser I turned on myself.

Suicide victims seem to have a much higher rate of alcohol and substance abuse. The vast majority of victims also have a mental illness that should have served as a warning.

It is called the Question, Persuade, Refer (Q.P.R.) program. It teaches people how to deal with suicide when encountering a situation, how to respond to people who are suicidal and how to refer them to help.
