It's quite a stinky problem. Usually, these fish end up floating around and sinking and becoming part of the organic matter in Lake Erie.

One percent is not a big deal. It is always nice to get a decrease, but 1 percent is not a big one. If they were taking it off, it would be great.

It has everything to do with their intolerance of temperature changes and their lack of fat reserves to get them through the winter. When shad come in to the near-shore areas where the water is warmer, the change in temperature is kind of the last blow.
