It's faithful without being religious. It's a garden book but it's not about gardening. It's sort of inspirational but it's not a devotional.

A lot of my writing went into sermons and seminary papers, but I'm beginning to feel the urge again. I need something creative going on in my life.

The book was very much a part of my continuing growing sense that I should go into the ministry. It was just that kind of sense that God was using the words of the book in some way that was unfathomable because it affected people's lives in an amazing way.

The first day I found myself writing down topics of things that I had thought about while I was in the garden and then I just wrote madly for over two weeks. Most recreation relaxes our bodies but keeps our minds engaged. Gardening is just the opposite of that, so it really allows your mind to wander. For me it became a time of thinking about things.

Grant unto us, Lord, that we may set our hope on Thy name…and open the eyes of our hearts, that we
may know Thee.”
“We beseech Thee, Lord and Master, to be our help and succour. Save those among us who are in
tribulation; have mercy on the lowly; lift up the fallen; show Thyself to those in need; heal the sick; turn
again the wanderers of Thy people; feed the hungry; ransom our prisoners; raise up the weak; comfort
the faint-hearted. Let all nations know that Thou art God alone, and that Jesus Christ is Thy Son, and
that we are Thy people and the sheep of Thy pasture.”
“We praise Thee who art able to do these and better things than these, through Jesus Christ the High
Priest and Guardian of our souls, through whom be glory and majesty to Thee, both now and
throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.

Wahai, wanita-wanita yang hingga usia tiga puluh, empat puluh, atau lebih dari itu, tapi belum juga menikah (mungkin kerana kekurangan fizikal, tidak ada kesempatan, atau tidak pernah 'terpilih' di dunia yang amat keterlaluan mencintai harta dan penampilan wajah.) Yakinlah, wanita-wanita solehah yang sendiri, namun tetap mengisi hidupnya dengan indah, bersedekah dan berkongsi, berbuat baik dan bersyukur. Kelak di hari akhir sungguh akan menjadi bidadari-bidadari syurga. Dan khabar baik itu pastilah benar, bidadari syurga parasnya cantik luar biasa.
