It's an opportunity to draw the entire community together. Not to focus on a man, but to focus on the institution and the future of that institution.

I wanted to make him (Daniel) proud and the university proud. I went home feeling like we accomplished what we set out to do.

The day and the program pay respects to our past, but it will primarily be focused on the future.

In the 22 years I've been here, it will be the largest gathering (of faculty) in regalia that we've had here on campus. I think it shows their support.

We haven't had the opportunity to review it as yet. We're aware of tremendous community support behind this young man. But ultimately ICE is obligated to follow the law.

Just having the opportunity to know that they can come in and speak openly, be very respectfully listened to, and get a very clear, forthright and reality-based response that very much factors in their interests. It's not just the party line, and that in and of itself is a weight off of people's shoulders.
