It was quite an honor to be recognized in front of my fellow firefighters. I enjoyed the moment.

People were yelling someone was still trapped inside. There wasn't much time to waste.

We're a brotherhood, so everyone always gives you a pat on the back when something like this happens. Fortunately, having to rescue someone doesn't happen too often. There are definitely mixed emotions. You feel proud to help but at the same time, someone was injured.

It's basically an honor system now.
