It seems like the (Bush) administration is very out of step with the concern that the public feels for protecting nature,

nothing of this magnitude ever happened in the Bush Administration. First of all, George Bush wouldn't have asked if it could happen, and then folks around him would have said, 'No, that's not appropriate.'

No matter what the Bush administration does, the public is never going to believe they're doing everything they can in the Gulf. That's the box the administration is in.

It's not just the way the Bush administration responded to Katrina, but events afterwards. There's too much history.... The center of gravity of the Republican Party is white Southerners, the group African-Americans trust the least.

The country and the Congress were misled into war. I regret that we were not given the truth; as I said more than a year ago, knowing what we know now, I would not have gone to war in Iraq. And knowing now the full measure of the Bush Administration’s duplicity and incompetence, I doubt there are many members of Congress who would give them the authority they abused so badly. I know I would not.
