It might sound odd, but the world needs theatre majors. I have worked as a medical receptionist, a substitute teacher, a corporate secretary, an associate in a New York clothing showroom and a waitress for a catering company.

I usually only go to the theatre if I've got mates in it, and it's usually crap. I have told Sam [Mendes] he can't do Shakespeare for a while now, because I don't want to have to go to see it.

And I think that what is of concern is that they seem to be bringing skills from the scientific world into the interrogation room in a way that begs a lot of questions about whether it's ethical.

This has been one of the longstanding unfilled user needs. We saw a search need where we weren't providing users with the highest-quality results that we could.

It was our view of the worst that could befall our people if they were taken captive. So, what was fascinating to me was that somehow it appears the techniques that we have feared most in the world would be used on our people, we are using on people in our custody.

Our producing artistic director Peter Altman is a firm believer that live theatre needs to have a strong connection to the heart of the city. Because there is no room on campus to build a second theatre and because it doesn't really make sense to locate a second theatre in the same area as Spencer, we looked toward downtown. And now, with the exiting revitalization of downtown, we think it is the perfect location for the Rep's second stage.
