It has a hopeful message in that we're progressing in our understanding of what parts of the brain are involved, and that there may be aspects of brain involvement that are reversible.

All of this is preliminary evidence that medication might have the potential to reverse brain abnormalities in the disorder.

The brain changes were diminished in persons with bipolar disorder who were taking mood-stabilizing medications. This brings hope that it may someday be possible to halt the progression of the disorder.
