It becomes a three way conversation between me, the painting, and the viewer.

What really appeals to me is being there with your feet in the mud, or the bugs after you, or looking over your shoulder to make sure you're okay.

I have never yet painted a location that something unique didn't happen. This is Spain.

It's the difference between standing with a glass between you and whatever is going on in the world and being right out in it on the other side of the glass where the action is happening.

Since that day, I have been a different person, ... and my painting has brought me more joy.

I feel the need of attaining the maximum of intensity with the minimum of means. It is this which has led me to give my painting a character of even greater bareness.
