In terms of photographers, the overall collection is quite economical. The majority of the work is by noted photographers in different circles. All are recognized at least by reputation and by name, and many, by the image. For me, each photograph evokes an 'Oh, it's you.' It's like seeing old friends.

It's kind of showing off and celebrating what local collectors have amassed.

The exhibit is still divided into the eight themes organized by the Honolulu Academy. But it becomes a different exhibition every time it goes to another venue. The installation can inspire a considerably different experience. Our central curved wall with its portals creates a certain dynamic when looking through the wall to wonderful vistas and unexpected juxtapositions of images. We chose to hang the iconic theme across the curved wall, those extremely recognizable images that take on a life of their own in the pubic imagination.

We need to do work on this policy. In short, offensive comments about homosexuals were commonplace and a majority believed that they were tolerated to some extent within the military.
