In my 31 years in Congress, I have seen a lot of changes. We made some substantial policy changes that have improved our parks system and our public lands.

The American public is somewhat ambivalent about what they expect out of thenational forest,

...it is disquieting to feel that the conversion into a National Forest or Park always means the esthetic death of a piece of wild country.

Our teachers are valuable, and our public policy should reflect that.

Wal-Mart's proposed changes are clearly designed to try and salvage a faltering public image, rather than make substantial changes to improve health-care benefits for its employees.

Not on my watch will we sell or transfer our public lands.
