If something like that was said, I don't think that was his sincere desire. He didn't want to be physically present in front of the judge. So we came to an accommodation.

Most people who are in custody are unhappy about that ... I'm hopeful he and I are going to build a rapport.

Mr. Wallace does not trust people working inside the system, and that's based on a lifetime of experience. I don't know exactly why he has the feelings that he has, but it takes time to build trust between an attorney and a client.

He has not decided, and we're trying to discourage him from that. I think that he's listening to us when we tell him he needs the assistance of competent counsel.
