I went into record some demo songs and Paul [Fitzsimmons] let me borrow one of his electric guitars, so maybe that's where I started to write a little more on the electric.

Having a really solid drummer behind us gave us all a charge. Dave is just this gem in Pittsburgh, this national caliber drummer. We were very fortunate to have him. It's like playing a pickup basketball game with an NBA guy, it just forces you all to play better.

I think today record companies are looking for a single, rather than here's an album we made that tries to have some flow to it, tries to weave common threads and themes to it.

That was probably a conscious effort. But we're not really trying to sell out; it's not an effort to go mainstream. It's a natural evolution.

She came up for a week and we jammed. I think we wrote like six songs for the record that week. When it actually came time to record, she flew in for a week. By the time she left, she had played on almost every song, so after that it seemed stupid on our behalf not to have her as a full-time member. It's always healthy to add something. Forget the fact that the band is called Boys Night Out.

They (ABC) actually ran a clip for one of the songs and that went really well because they broadcast it during their preschool time slot. That sort of like caught on and we said 'Well this is going well.' So there was a bit of demand there for the album. Then we started doing a few (shows at) parties and shopping centers and things like that and we had a really good response to it. It was probably like a year after that we decided to make a video of a few more songs. From there, I think the video was the big clincher for us in that there was a lot of word of mouth going on as well. The children responded really well to the videos.
