I was holding on to a woman and her child under an overpass as the tornado went over us. My pager went up in the tornado as it passed through. It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen.

My first recollection is of a nurse telling somebody would you please get this woman a bed. The name is Carter, C-A-R-T-E-R, yes, just like the president.

When people ask me why I am running as a woman, I always answer, "What choice do I have?"
