I wanted to go to Washington to bring people together who had never been together before. I wanted to break down the barriers between races.

In our society, the women who break down barriers are those who ignore limits.

I broke my neck, it's a classic neck break from chin to chest. If I had been alone, I would probably be dead.

I've never tried to run away from my race. I was born a black man. You know that in your bones as soon as you are able to understand this country... My approach to life about race is, I don't see the difference between black people and white people.

I try to support groups that are about educating people about different races, different religions, different cultures and different situations so that we can break down the barriers of prejudice and bigotry.

I had made my reputation on integrity.
