I think this is as much symbolic as anything. But it's still important, and I understand why Sen. Byrd would push for this.

We are here to say, 'Thank you, France, Thank you, Germany, Thank you, China' and 'Thank you, Sen. [Robert] Byrd,'

I said to Sen. Coleman that we could readily understand the way he might feel. We could readily understand that he might feel duped, as many others probably felt the same way.

Sen. Daschle clearly articulated the French position.

I don't have anything to say on what Sen. Warner might have said.

It's clearly a distraction even though the renewal of the draft isn't likely to happen.
