I think the oral argument could be very interesting. I am hopeful, but not optimistic, that some of the justices could tip their hand.

The Courtroom is a battlefield, and oral argument requires a fair amount of verbal jousting and sparring with the Justices.

Let the passions and cupidities and dreams and kinks and ideals and greed and hopes and foul corruptions of all men and women have their day and the world will still be better off, for there is more good than bad in the sum of us and our workings.

I can't be optimistic. I can be hopeful.

The Americans are optimistic by their nature. And they are hopeful.

Not that (the justices) intended it that way. But it has that effect.
