I think Mr. Nichols is going to win the election. It was a good race, and everyone ran hard, and I wish him the best. I've already called to congratulate him on how the race has gone so far.

They wanted me in on this and I would not get in on this because I didn't think it was legal.

I've been a friend of Charlie Ray's a long time and he's still very much my friend. He got pulled into an issue he didn't want to be pulled into. He's a public servant and an employee. He was remorseful for signing the letter. I'm extremely sorry he got pulled into this.

I don't think it is appropriate to drag in the other candidates. I don't have any intention of signing (the pledge). I didn't have anything to do with the suit or any of his original troubles.

I had legal opinions that I didn't have to resign, but I resigned to avoid an appearance of conflict.
