I think it's a matter not so much of legality as of fundamental fairness, that the president ought to have a right to respond to any report if there is such a report.

I think that it's safe to say that the president has considered him one of his ... most loyal allies in the House. And I know the president and all Americans will miss his service in the House of Representatives.

The president believes he's already cleared the air, ... He's made very plain and clear what his point of view is.

I think in fairness to the representative, I probably ought to look at it before I give you a comment about it.

One thing that came up in the session ... is whether or not there is some type of copycat phenomenon. We don't know the answer to that. We don't know enough about this incident today [in Oregon] to know what is suggested by way of motive.
