I think all of us are concerned about security, but I think the lesson -- and I think it's a national lesson -- is you can't have uncontrolled power that affects individual rights. ... they (jurors) were not going to let a company simply under the guise of security fly and trample on a person's rights.

It is unfortunately not uncommon for judges to be sued. There's current litigation against them in which they are being sued in their official capacity ... in fact the city attorney's office is representing them.

the judges are naturally sensitive to data sets that affect their judicial autonomy.

It started with profiling, perhaps a stereotype, and it escalated to something much more sinister. This particular incident has some role in that greater national discussion about balancing security with individual rights.

In the evidence it came out that one of the flight attendants stated that Ms. Carrington reminded her of a terrorist, and in our views she was the victim of profiling stereotypes and discrimination.

We haven't addressed that. It's not their primary concern or my primary concern. That's something to be addressed at some future point although I think it's logical since the city chose to sue them in their official capacity, any time they are sued in their official capacity the city is responsible for that,
