I personally use my cross-country ski boots because they fit and they're waterproof. But any big pack boot or smaller hiking boot will work in the bindings. The key is to be waterproof.

One thing we've tried to transcend over from the work boot is the fit.

We're all separate -- cross-country, biathlon, Nordic combined and ski jumping.

Those wooden shoes look really nice, and we had one pair in our shop last year for $229, and they didn't sell. They're much heavier, they're wider, the bindings aren't modern, and they're harder to walk on.

It takes some cardiovascular fitness. You are going to end up being fit if you do a lot of snowshoeing, and I think that's one of the reasons a lot of people do it.

I now realize that the small hills you see on ski slopes are formed around the bodies of forty-seven-year-olds who tried to learn snowboarding.
