Someone told me once that you can’t be friends with your kids. I say that person is an idiot. You quickly realize that making friends with these little people that confiscate most of your waking hours is a smart move on your part.

I dreamt we walked together along the shore. We made satisfying small talk and laughed. This morning I found sand in my shoe and a seashell in my pocket. Was I only dreaming?

How could you carry the inside of a person with you and not call them a friend, no matter what the rules said?
