I know [Rivera's] leg kick is a 1.4 or a 1.5 [seconds]. And when [he uses a slide step], it's a 1.0. I don't care how fast you are, [if the pitcher gets the ball to home in] 1.1, 1.0, you just shut it down because you are going to get thrown out no matter how big your lead is.

I'm not a fourth outfielder and I'm not a Minor Leaguer. I think I've done enough to prove I'm a Major Leaguer. ... I expect to be a starter. I'm not a backup. I'm good enough to be a starter here. I've shown I can play.

I come from an athletic family. Anytime we lift weights, we gain weight.

There are some guys who get on base and just run. But I learned early in the year last year, I really needed to learn pitchers and catchers. I know my catchers now when I get into the game. It's from when I'm not playing. I learned that from Eddie [Perez], because he only plays against lefties. So he tells me [I need to study the other team]. Know your catcher and know who's going to pitch.

When I saw him get the ball, I knew it was going to be close. So, I was just trying to go as hard as I can. He was blocking the plate, so I just tried to go through him. I'm not the type to run people over.
