I know now why Franz Schubert Never finished his unfinished symphony He would have written more but the clock struck four, And everything stopped for tea

I never want projects to be finished; I have always believed in unfinished work. I got that from Schubert, you know, the 'Unfinished Symphony.'

The alarm in the morning? Well, I have an old tape of Carlo Maria Giulini conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in a perfectly transcendent version in Shubert's seventh symphony. And I've rigged it up so that at exactly 7:30 every morning it falls from the ceiling onto my face.

When a book is written, it's a final product. But, when a script is finished, it's really just a blueprint. And it's an extraordinary experience for me to watch someone take what I wrote and imagined and make it three-dimensional. And it's great if someone adds something I hadn't thought of.

Having written about a place that was utterly destroyed, it struck me as interesting to look at a place that had come through the war almost literally unscathed, ... I thought, 'And yet and yet and yet ... Does any place [really] come out unscathed?'

We got to the Big Dance and the slipper fit, but the clock struck 12. To get to the (state) championship game far exceeded anything that we imagined. Even though we came up a little short, we can't be disappointed. We definitely overachieved.
