I have to face everyday teaching students who don't have an observatory, ... I'm doing this for them. It's the right thing to do.

You can't do right by the students in an economic vacuum,

You're only half-kidding about watering down. It's not right. Our students will go to college and have to compete against kids whose schools didn't water down their classes.

During class, our teaching is often aimed at white students or the white norm. Faculty members should be encouraged to create a curriculum where students of color and white students are represented equally.

It's a tremendous teaching tool and it's going to give our students hands-on, practical experience.

We try to make things relevant to the lives of students culturally and by teaching timeless truths. This allows us to be on their field, their turf.
