I had assumed that I would age with all my friends growing old around me, dying off very gradually one by one. And here was a plague that cut them off so early.

It's easy to grow old if you haven't grown up

I'm growing fonder of my staff;

I'm growing careless of my dress;
I'm growing frugal of my gold;

To me, growing old is great. It's the very best thing - considering the alternative.
