I don't find the punishment fit the crime,

The man who has a conscience suffers whilst acknowledging his sin. That is his punishment.

(…)man holds the remedy in his own hands, and lets everything go its own way, simply through cowardice- that is an axiom.

Punishment creates crime.

We both agree this type of crime justifies this punishment.
