I am proud to be a part of this landmark project that has afforded me the opportunity to collaborate with so many of my peers to bring this unique and timely version of the Bible to the global marketplace.

My son had his eighth birthday recently and we had a chance to borrow the film and show it to all of his friends that was at his birthday party and they loved it. I was a little nervous. I said they might not even like it, and say his daddy's movie is wack, but they loved it.

You have to really straddle the fence. Definitely, you don't want to be a caricature. I hope to never play a caricature and that's the challenge - what are the subtleties and nuances in the character himself and how do you bring those out and make him more realistic? But then also, you can't make him too sympathetic, because at the end of the day, you have to be able to dismiss that kind of character because they're wrong in every way, shape and form.

Sometimes what he says may sound to some people like cliches. But he says things, and in ways, that especially in the black community, we understand exactly what he's saying, because we've heard those things since childhood.

When I was doing 'L.A. Law' it was really important to me to play very uplifting, positive characters. When that was over, I made a conscious effort to look for roles that were darker and showed a different edge. I went directly from the last day of 'L.A. Law' into rehearsals for a movie called 'Just Cause' where I played a serial-killing pedophile.
