I acknowledge the four elements. Water in the North; incense to recognize the air in the East; flowers for the earth in the South; a candle for light from the West. It helps me keep perspective.

In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.

And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

The East fell off. But the North, the South and the West are still there.

There was no south, there was no north, no east and no west-just the 11 apostles.

Eurasia's main axis is east/west, whereas the main axis of the Americas is north/south. Eurasia's east/west axis meant that species domesticated in one part of Eurasia could easily spread thousands of miles at the same latitude, encountering the same day-length and climate to which they were already adapted.
