He is sitting in a chair reading his newspapers and we continue to anticipate a Thursday discharge. Decisions regarding his discharge are made on a day-to-day basis.

The president is getting out of bed, reading the newspapers and eating well. He is in a good mood and wanting to return home. His condition is not life-threatening.

Based on his age, it is prudent for his initial course of treatment - IV antibiotics - to be done at the hospital.

He continues to respond to treatments and is improving every day. He is currently enjoying spending his time out of bed, conversing with Mrs. (Betty) Ford and eating well.
