Gratitude is not only the memory but the homage of the heart rendered to God for his goodness.

For her heart was cold to all but gold,And the rich came not to woo --But honored well are charms to sellIf priests the selling do.

Gratitude is the memory of the heart.

Unless it’s out of the goodness of someone’s heart, I don’t like having things given to me for free. I like working hard for what I earn. It gives me a sense of gratitude, and that’s the only
way I can truly appreciate it.
