Generally, cars were not built to sit on dealer lots. It encourages the wrong kind of behavior in the whole system.

If you look from 1992 to 1997, we've really reduced the number of car models from more than 100 to about 81. Our strategy is to have the right number of products. Segment the brands better. There's a lot of work being done on the distribution side of the business. And the data's showing that our new products are doing a very decent job in the market.

It's fine if you're making 1,000 or 2,000 of an electric car, and I think there is value in that in a lot of ways, but it's not going to have a big dent in oil consumption in the country, or CO2 emissions.

Ford, as I understand it, had done away with the concept of regional management, and now they've re-introduced that in Europe, so it's kind of a two-way street.

Then they're not only paying off this car but the last car. The dealer will assist them in finding out how to do that. If they do that enough they could be paying for several cars at once. The payments may seem lower, but something has to give at some point.

I do have a dealer car. But I'm putting 20,000 a year on those cars, so it's saving our department money because we're not claiming mileage (reimbursement).
