For us, the litigation issue is really a risk assessment issue, and the fact that an injunction is almost always issued automatically creates a lot of risky situations.

That's clearly an important thing for us. The Chinese government is a major customer of software. We have had a problem in the past with government ministries using illicit copies and the Chinese have made a commitment to stop that.

Five years ago, there probably wasn't a tech CEO worrying about patents. But, as these people [trolls] acquire portfolios of patents, there's been an explosion of cease and desist letters and actual litigation.

Hundreds of patent infringement cases are pending against computer software and hardware manufacturers.

We think that you need to look at that bigger picture; we think you need to look at the full range of fairness factors and the judge needs to have that discretion.

There's nothing companies hate more than unpredictability. Injunctive relief poses a very disruptive force to our industry.
