Economics matters a great deal, and American companies are often torn when they consider their actions in a foreign land.

New regulations would be a disaster at this point. Nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter at the level of individual atoms and molecules, offers the greatest benefits for society if left to grow through modest regulation, civilian research, and an emphasis on self-regulation and responsible professional culture.

It's the society we live in, that we're so open and trusting. We make the assumption that everything is OK. And then something like this happens and it's a wake-up call. I'm certainly going to think more about where I put my information.
