Doing more with less. We receive less per pupil funding than DOE (state Department of Education) schools. We have learned to prioritize our budget and to put our money where our vision is.

All schools that receive public funding should be accountable, yes.

Our schools spend about half of what is spent per pupil in New York City public high schools, [and] with dramatically better results. The problem is not the amount of money being spent. Spending in New York City has increased several billion over the last five years alone; the problem is how the money is spent.

The DOE (Department of Education) did not serve our board well or within a suitable time. You would think they'd know the requirements when issuing a license.

Mark Guillermo, our school counselor. He's very visible on campus. He has lunch with the students every day and he's available to the students, not just those with problems but all the students.

I think it's our food service. We're able to offer our children breakfast and lunch that's really good. The whole concept is based on choice. We offer fresh fruit every morning and for lunch we have a salad bar offered every day.
