Customs, morals--is there a difference?

Customs tell a man who he is, where he belongs, what he must do. Better illogical customs than none; men cannot live together without them.

A dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than is a riot.

The supreme irony of life is that no one gets out of it alive.

Being right too soon is socially unacceptable.
