Companies are far from finished when it comes to thinning out their ranks,

The field is continually changing, and some companies feel like they're constantly under siege. It takes a special kind of individual just to walk into that, much less take control of it.

It's going to be hard to replace packages that were about $67 an hour when you added in pensions and health-care benefits.

I see it as a positive sign when you see companies building their potential, as far as investing in other technologies and adding it to their current portfolio.

When a book is written, it's a final product. But, when a script is finished, it's really just a blueprint. And it's an extraordinary experience for me to watch someone take what I wrote and imagined and make it three-dimensional. And it's great if someone adds something I hadn't thought of.

I think that the social compact hammered out in the mid-20th century has been superseded by a new compact that is different and doesn't promise the potential for lifetime tenure. Workers are free agents.
