Both the historic resource and wilderness character were slipping away from us. We had to figure out how to compromise our divergent perspectives without compromising Cumberland Island.

The pressure to increase these kinds of uses in national parks is constantly increasing. Our park lands are becoming more and more like isolated islands, with the demands for their use from everybody.

OSM has failed to address our central allegation that, cumulatively, the mining in the New River watershed will adversely affect the Big South Fork.

Without the support of all the (private) groups, that funding problem, of course, would be even more profound.

Not one of those is there legally.
