Awareness is probably the biggest challenge we've had.

The unique thing about Jaycees vs. some other groups is that the Jaycees are primarily solely responsible for everything from the idea generation all the way through the execution and the evaluation. The reason we do that is a lot of young professionals have great potential, but in their day-to-day business life aren't truly given the opportunity to lead projects. This is the way to help them get that experience.

We know Johnston is a growing community. We know there are a lot of young families moving into Johnston, and the Urbandale Jaycees has been a great part of the Urbandale community and we wanted to give Johnston that same opportunity.

If you live or work in Johnston, it'd be a great opportunity to get more involved in the community.

The challenge is not only to raise money, but to raise awareness and help smaller communities start a Habitat for Humanity chapter.

It's a challenge, but we're not going to back away from it. Me and Kevin, we know we have to be ready to battle in the paint now.
