Australia expects its citizens to abide by core beliefs - democracy, the rule of law, the independent judiciary, independent liberty.

Being democratic is not enough, a majority cannot turn what is wrong into right. In order to be considered truly free, countries must also have a deep love of liberty and an abiding respect for the rule of law.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

Many of those people carrying those placards were clearly inciting violence or inciting hatred and that is against the law. It does not need any new glorification laws.

The price of liberty is labor as well as vigilance.

This ruling shows that no one is above the law. It's been that way since we returned to democracy.
