As I see it, pathos brings a reader to view your open heart behind a glass window of words; the words should transparently present exactly what your heart cannot say, while still protecting your heart from the unfamiliar onlooker.

How can we manage to illuminate the pathos of our lives?

She showed him something no one else had ever shown him; that it was possible to love someone more than himself; that another's suffering could bring him more pain than his own; that someone's life could come before his; that's what she showed him.

It is difficult to undo our own damage, and to recall to our presence that which we have asked to leave.
