As always, our first concerns are for protection of people and our environment. With this in mind, we continue to work closely with the electric utilities as they re-establish service in Mississippi,

Austin, of course, places a high priority on both citizen involvement and input and protection of the environment. So I think because of that, our regulations do tend to be a little difficult.

There's a role it (the Center) symbolically plays in protection of the natural environment, and there's even more of a practical role it can play under the right leadership. This is a woman who gets it, and is willing to try new things when it comes to protection of the environment.

These are very serious people...it's a very tough working environment here.

Our challenge is to use this environment of dramatic change to push for better governance and for protection of human rights.

The predominant trend had been that people thought that fish have a powerful effect on their environment, and they drive the changes in everything else. What we've seen is the reverse, that fish are responding to a change in their habitat. We think that a lot of fish communities are fundamentally changed by fishing. Our study is really nice in that we are working on populations that have never been fished, so their population dynamics can be seen being driven by natural processes.
