An opposition leader deals with the Prime Minister, not with component parts of the executive. Were opposition members to go directly to members of the public administration with their queries, the government would surely yell 'foul!' And rightly so.

With one side of his mouth the Prime Minister Gonzi tells the Leader of the Opposition to take his questions of corruption to the Police Commissioner. With the other side he denies the opposition the proper working of the mechanism of the Public Accounts Committee. Something's beginning to rot, somewhere.

Whether it was a figment of Mgr Gonzi’s imagination, or whether Dom Mintoff deliberately gave that impression, it was the climax of the bitter Church-Labour dispute and the beginning of eight years of social banishment of MLP supporters.

Government must make the public transport affordable for the user for it to be a success. Increasing costs in private cars to force people to resort to the public transport is not a sustainable move.

It is shameful that people like Prime Minister Gonzi tried to depict people in favour of divorce as supporters of abortion, or minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici who claimed the only people who wanted divorce were men who wanted younger women.
