Although Customs and Border Protection analyzes cargo and other information to target specific shipments for closer inspection, it still physically inspects only a small fraction of the containers under its purview.

I think it is important also to recognize that our Customs border protection officers who secure our borders and conduct inspections of people in vehicles and cargo are also facing staffing shortages.

It's being taken to a safe anchorage for inspection. There's no apparent damage to the cargo, no leaks or spills. There's an environmental team on standby to make sure we don't have any problems.

Telephones are a virtual necessity - not a luxury - and the revenues collected by this tax flow into the general fund. But this once temporary tax remains and costs American taxpayers, our small businesses and families almost $6 billion dollars a year.

That's great historical information, and it also has provided, on the record, some modicum of protection.
