A lot of people get scared when they're put in the spotlight. But I thrive off that.

I got nervous when I didn't know where we were. I was so scared that he was going to kill me. He said he was going to take me back home, but then he said maybe he wouldn't.

Historically when people have been scared and people have been nervous, there's been an uptick in science-fiction, fantasy and horror. It happened in the '50s with the Red Scare and the Space Race and all of that. And there usually is a correlation between (events and fiction that follows). You're telling allegorical tales and you're shining a light back on society, and it's a way to talk about what's going on but from a sideways angle.

When critics begin to identify something that they see as a tendency, they tend to write about what people have in common. And what they share may not be the most important aspects of the work. In fact, it's what makes each artist's work different from the others which is interesting.

People used what they called a telephone because they hated being close together and they were scared of being alone.

It just shows that the governor's fundraising is on automatic pilot. Only when there's a spotlight cast on his activities will he ever think about returning the money.
