A lot of parents are overprotective and try to shield their children from any mention of drug problems. They just won't talk about it. Keep the communication open.

Many parents were told by doctors that their children had problems because of something that happened during pregnancy or delivery, or their child had a high fever. If they find out it is genetic or a birth defect, they have this catharsis of guilt they've carried around for so long.

We were noticing an increase in these problems. We couldn't go to freshman orientation anymore and tell parents there were no problems with the old system.
